Kipchoge’s Training and Diet May Surprise You
One may think an athlete of Kipchoge’s caliber maintains his spot as the world’s top long-distance runner with a particularly rigorous training regimen. But you may be surprised to know that the Olympic gold medalist makes conscious efforts not to overextend himself during training. Most of his practice runs consists of Kipchoge, exerting just 80 percent of his energy. Kipchoge says he saves his maximum efforts for race day.
Kipchoge’s diet is also described as incredibly simple. He often consumes rice and the Kenyan dish, Ugali, to go along with the typical intake of fruits and vegetables. He also drinks milk from cows that roam near his training camp. Many were surprised not to find more luxurious foods like beef, chicken and sausage at Kipchoge’s camp in the days leading up to Saturday’s run. Instead, the menu consisted of potatoes, beans and porridge.
