If he seed you he’d make you lay down flat on your belly, foots tied out and hands tied out and whoop yer. The whip was a leather strap with a handle. I been whooped til I tell lies on myself to make them quit. Say they whoop till I tell the truth, so I had to lie about myself to keep them from killing me.
If any of us died in those days, (they) buried us as quick as they could and got out of there and got to work.”
