Despite being full of jokes, Michael Blackson showed that he takes the education of his people seriously. The comedian has officially opened the Michael Blackson Academy in Agona Nsaba, Ghana, after hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 3rd.

Blackson first announced the ribbon-cutting ceremony three weeks ago via social media and noted that the development of the school has been two years in the making. He was in attendance at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which featured live performances, speeches, food, and a tour of the newly built academy. Classes will begin this week to welcome the first group of students.

The comedian referred to the opening of the school as the greatest day of his life. Blackson Tweeted, “I’ve finally accomplished what I always wanted to do which is giving these kids a chance to be great. Greatness starts with education and foundational education shouldn’t come with financial barriers.” For students to have the most optimal experience, the academy is expected to provide children with “free education, free uniforms and free everything.” Students are only required to pay attention to their instructors.

This is also a special opportunity for Blackson since the school was built near the village he grew up in. Blackson added, “this is just the beginning of what I’ve always wanted to do, help unfortunate kids around the world.” The comedian also thanked his fans and supporters for the role they played in creating the academy. Blackson stated, “I couldn’t have done this without my fans, every time you bought a ticket to my show you helped a kid.” He is also encouraging other successful people to give back to their respective communities.

In addition to creating the Michael Blackson Academy, he is providing extra support to the youth through The Michael Blackson Foundation. According to the foundation’s website, the non-profit is committed to making quality education accessible to all children. The foundation recognizes that many children do not have the opportunity to receive a quality education. Therefore, it helps to provide scholarships to those in need.
