A series based on Pulitzer Prize-winning The Warmth of Other Suns will lead the line-up of Shonda Rhimes’s shows on Netflix. The line-up was revealed today in a New York Times piece written by John Koblin.

Netflix signed Rhimes to a $150 million deal with incentives last August and following the success of “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal” and “How To Get Away With Murder,” Rhimes’s slate of shows on Netflix were much anticipated.

The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson followed the great migration of people from the Global Majority from the south, where they experienced Jim Crow and brutal violence, to the north and west. Anna Deveare Smith is adapting this for Shondaland, Rhimes’s production company.

Producer, director, actress and choreographer Debbie Allen, who stars in and has directed several “Grey’s Anatomy” episodes, will be featured in a docu-series, “Hot Chocolate Nutcracker,” where she reimagines the holiday ballet,” The Nutcracker.”

There are six other shows set for release over the next year, including “Reset,” another book adaptation by former tech exec Ellen Pao that focuses on sexism in Silicon Valley. “The Residence” will take viewers behind the scenes of the White House. Based on the book by Kate Andersen Brower, this series will take a look at the private lives of the presidents, their family and the staff. There is also a series set in the 1840s in California (which is still Mexico at this time).

Celebrating US from one end of the land to the other. We record our acts, our accomplishments, our sufferings, and our temporary defeats throughout the diaspora. We bring content that is both unique and focused on showing the world our best. Unapologetically.
