Lurie Daniel Favors Says the Government Is Criminalizing Protest and Voter Work

SiriusXM Urban View host Lurie Daniel Favors warned listeners that recent federal actions against voter organizers and anti-ICE protesters show that threats to voting rights and protest rights are no longer theoretical.

“This is something that we shared a lot of conversation about before,” Daniel Favors told her listeners. “At one point it was just theory. It was just executive order. It was just conversation. Honey, it is happening and it is happening now.”

Daniel Favors was reacting to the FBI raid of the Ohio Organizing Collaborative, a voting rights group, who are “the leading voter registration group in the Buckeye State.”

“In 2024 alone, they registered 100,000 voters,” she explained to her audience. “That is amazing. That is amazing. And they should be applauded for that.”

Instead, she believes that the group has become the target of federal scrutiny.

“There is a mass effort to engage in voter intimidation as against this group that quite frankly should petrify anyone who is willing to do the work of educating voters,” the popular radio host continued before adding that he raid has immediate implications for organizations like hers that do voter education and turnout work.

“One of my team members was like, ‘This case that happened in Ohio, what does that mean for groups like yours?’” shared. “It means problems. It means big problems.”

Daniel Favors then brought up the state of Texas, where anti-ICE protesters were sentenced to decades in prison after a 2025 protest outside the Prairieland ICE Detention Center.

“We see what that might end up with because these are just the warning shots,” said Daniel Favors. “They are going to continue these sorts of prosecutions because they want people to comply,” going on to note that the cases should push people to stay alert and participate electorally.

“They’re coming for your voting rights,” she said. “They’re coming for your jobs.”
