Wanda James, the first black woman to own a marijuana dispensary in the United States, chats with Karen Hunter about the opportunities and the possibilities in the cannabis industry. There are 30 states where medical marijuana is legal, nine of which are legal for recreational use. Several more states are contemplating legalizing marijuana and there is talk of America following Canada and making it legal federally.
“It’s time to remove the stigma,” said James, who has a dispensary in Colorado and is eyeing several more throughout the country. “So many have had their lives ruined by the war on drugs. With the legalization of marijuana must come the opportunities for the black and brown people who have been negatively impacted by the criminalization.”
