Angel Reese Becomes an Owner of DC Power Football Club

Over the last two years, Angel Reese has had as much success off the court as she’s had on it.

She won a National Championship in 2023 at LSU. A few months later, new Reebok President Shaquille O’Neal and VP Allen Iverson announced the brand signed Reese to a multi-year endorsement deal.

Now, a month after being selected by the Chicago Sky with the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Reese has made her latest big off-the-court move by becoming a pro team owner.

Reese is the newest owner of DC Power Football Club, the new D.C.-based professional women’s soccer team that begins its inaugural season in the USL Super League this summer.

“I want to help grow women’s sports and elevate female athletes across the board,” Reese said in a statement. “We’re taking over, and I’m honored to be able to support Power FC and invest in women’s soccer in the DMV community.”

Reese, a Maryland native, is all about giving back and empowering women.

Last August, she donated $12,000 to her high school, St. Frances Academy in Maryland, to cover one year’s tuition for a player on the girl’s basketball team. It was a full circle moment for the basketball star, as she was able to attend St. Frances through the same type of scholarship offer.

By stepping into ownership, particularly of a women’s sports team, Reese continues to adhere to her mission and continue to be a positive influence for Black women.

“I’m invested in soccer. A lot of my friends play soccer as well, so I’m super excited for this partnership,” Reese said. “And a lot of young Black women don’t have these opportunities. And just being able to leave my impact and make this new thing and make this a thing now, like, women in charge, being able to do these things is something that’s really important right now.”

Her impact and importance are undeniable, which are some of the reasons why ownership was so excited to have her on board.

“Angel’s decision to be a founding investor alongside us in Power FC is groundbreaking,” said Jason Levien, D.C. United CEO and Co-Chairman. “As a Maryland native, Angel is so passionate about being a catalyst for positive change in women’s sports in the DMV as well as globally while inspiring the next generation of female athletes. We’re looking forward to her partnership in the boardroom as an equity partner.”

Reese continues to make power moves. Even more impressively, many of them continue to be outside of the paint.
