Mission Fulfilled 2030 Becomes the First Recipient of Urban View’s 2024 ‘Giving Initiative’

Karen Hunter and Channel 126 of SiriusXM have announced the launch of their new Urban View Radio project, Urban View Gives.

The “Giving Initiative” highlights a different group, organization or activist every month who are making a difference in the world.

“There are so many organizations doing the work with very little recognition and even less resources. This is our way of highlighting them and giving back to those that give to so many,” said Karen Hunter, programmer of Sirius XM Urban View, channel 126.

This initiative is more than a one-time act of generosity; it’s a commitment to creating a lasting impact and a way of thanking those who support our community.

January’s “Organization of the Month” is Mission Fulfilled 2030.

Launched in 2019 by Gerald A. Moore Sr., Mission Fulfilled 2030 aims to activate 100,000 Black boys by 2030 in Tech, STEM, and Cybersecurity.

“I was thrilled to learn that Mission Fulfilled 2030 had been selected as the first featured nonprofit for the year in the inaugural ‘Urban View Gives’ campaign. The significance of this moment cannot be overstated, especially considering that Black-led nonprofits receive about 1 percent of all philanthropic dollars, with those focused on Black male achievement receiving even less. Highlighting smaller organizations that are making tangible impacts in their communities is not only necessary but urgent. The work cannot wait,” said Moore in a statement to TheHub.news.

Per a research report by Zippia, only approximately 5% of all software engineers currently working in the tech field in the U.S. are Black Americans. Black Americans have the least payout of every demographic in the tech workforce, signaling a wage gap. According to an open letter penned by Congresswoman Barbara Lee, over 240,000 tech workers have been laid off in the past year, marking a 50% increase in firings from 2022.

Mission Fulfilled 2030 aims to build a network of 10,000 tech coaches and mentors, engage 1,000 companies in committing to seeding youth tech programs, and hire and develop talent.

“This spotlight from the ‘Urban View Gives’ campaign has provided Mission Fulfilled 2030 with a phenomenal start to our funding year, opening doors to invaluable connections within the community,” Moore added. “We’ve been fortunate to establish links with universities, attract volunteers for grant writing, and even catch the attention of influential individuals in the New York State Education Department who are interested in learning more about our programs and exploring potential partnerships. The level of media exposure and support we’ve received as a result is something we could never have achieved on our own.”
