SB LVIII and Usher? Let’s go!
Usher has done it his way, and now he’ll do the exact same thing at Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.
This morning, fans of the R&B superstar woke up elated to discover that Usher will be the headline performer at the 2024 Super Bowl on February 2024 at Alegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
“It’s an honor of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before,” Usher said in a statement given to CBS Sports, who will be airing the game. “Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I’ll see you real soon.”
This means that he won’t have to travel that far next year as he’s had a residency in the city since 2021.
Usher’s decades-long career and a treasure trove of hits made him an obvious choice for the game, a choice that Jay-Z made himself.
“Usher is the ultimate artist and showman. Ever since his debut at the age of 15, he’s been charting his own unique course. Beyond his flawless singing and exceptional choreography, Usher bares his soul,” said Jay-Z in a statement. “His remarkable journey has propelled him to one of the grandest stages in the world. I can’t wait to see the magic.”
Fans have been treated to amazing Halftime shows since Jay-Z and Roc Nation jumped into a partnership with the NFL in 2019.
This includes shows from Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, J Balvin and Emme Muniz in 2020, followed by The Weeknd in 2021 and Eminem, Dr. Dre. Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige and 50 Cent headlining Super Bowl LVI in L.A. And then last year Rihanna performed at Super Bowl LVII, where the world learned she was pregnant with her second child.
Usher made a previous appearance at the Big Game as a guest star with the Black Eyed Peas at Super Bowl XLV.
“I think I have a catalog that obviously speaks for itself, so to be able to celebrate on that day, it’s obviously about football, but everybody really anticipates the performance,” Usher said. “Seeing Michael Jackson perform and recently seeing Snoop [Dogg] and [Dr.] Dre … seeing so many incredible performances like Prince… it has always been kind of a bucket list.”
Seeing as Usher has always put on an amazing show, we expect the game and Halftime Show to continue what we’ve seen over the last four years.
