The Entertainment Weekend Recap: August 7

R&B singer Summer Walker and actor Lil Meech have called it quits, but still manage to make headlines. The newly single songstress was spotted out with rappers Sexyy Red, Sukihana and Saucy Sanatana. The group went out for a night of clubbing as Summer Walker attempts to move on from her fling with the BMF actor. The breakup was prompted by Ring camera video that surfaced and showed Lil Meech walking into a mystery woman’s apartment. He attempted to use the “that’s my cousin” line but Summer nor social media commentators were convinced. Since the breakup, the former couple have been exchanging subliminals online.

Popular influencer, Kai Cenat, garnered national attention but for all the wrong reasons this week. The famed Twitch Streamer and YouTuber was released from custody early Saturday morning after being arrested in New York City. Cenat hosted a giveaway on Friday, which boosted free PlayStations, and the giveaway quickly turned into mayhem. The NYPD made more than 60 arrests and 30 of those arrested were juveniles, according to Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey.

Cenat was issued a desk appearance ticket and his counts include inciting a riot and unlawful assembly.

Comedian and actor Jamie Foxx found himself at the center of controversy as well. Foxx made a post to his social media account with a message (in all caps), “THEY KILLED THIS DUDE NAME JESUS… WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY’LL DO TO YOU???!” Some social media users interpreted his post as antisemitic which prompted backlash, including from fellow actor Jennifer Aniston.

The actor has since deleted his post and clarified that it was not meant to be antisemitic, rather he was venting about a friend who wronged him.

No Limit rapper and brother of Master P, C-Murder,  is no stranger to being wronged. C-Murder, who was born Corey Miller, has been incarcerated for more than 20 years after being sentenced for the death of 16-year-old Steve Thomas outside a Louisiana nightclub in 2002. Miller has maintained his innocence and now has the backing of the NAACP as well as Kim Kardashian. The reality star took to her social media to shed light on the case and inform fans of the efforts being taken to secure Miller’s freedom. The rapper followed up the mention with his own social media post thanking the reality star and all of the other individuals who have worked on his case.

Fellow Louisiana rapper Lil Wayne has also had his share of run-ins with the law, but this week he made headlines when it was announced that he is set to become a series regular on Skip Bayless’ Undisputed. The show’s relaunch kicks off on August 28th and will feature the rapper for sports debates every Friday. While this may come as a surprise to some, Lil Wayne has always had a special place in the series. He is behind its theme song, “No Mercy,” and appeared in the series‘ first episode in September 2016. The announcement came after news broke that former co-host Shannon Sharpe, would no longer be a part of the show.
