Texas Attorney General Candidate Lee Merritt Asks for Donations on Behalf of Shaun King

This week, activist Shaun King announced that he and his family had been forced to move after several national publications published images of their New Jersey home.

“After a combination of Fox News, the NY Post, and other outlets posted pictures of my home across the Internet, we’ve now seen our address posted all over the Internet,” wrote King.
    ⁣
“Strangers have already started coming by the house. ⁣My kids can’t even go outside and play during the final month of summer break. ⁣So, we’re moving,” he continued, adding, “I suppose it might always be this way. I don’t know.⁣”

The newspapers posted detailed pictures of the estate. It reportedly cost $842,000. But King’s wife, Rai King, disclosed that the home was purchased with her money following years of hard work.

On Thursday, civil rights attorney Lee Merritt published a lengthy post to Instagram, calling for donations to help the Kings move.

“My good friends @shaunking and @mrsraiking are being forced to move from their home after national media publications printed their home address claiming they lived in a house too lavish for their incomes,” Merritt wrote.

He says the move was advised by the couple’s security advisors.

“This is an expensive proposition and will force them to sell their home at a loss. I’m asking you to send them your support today,” the Texas attorney general candidate wrote. “These two are literally married to the movement and will stop what they are doing at any given moment to serve the needs of others. They are in need of our help today. Let’s show up for them.”

King has repeatedly been labeled as a “fraud” and a “grifter” by fellow activists and, more recently, by Samaria Rice, the mother of slain teenager Tamir Rice.

For some, King’s refusal to prove his claims of Blackness has been perceived as a huge red flag.

King has consistently denied claims that he misappropriated funds raised on behalf of the families fighting for justice for loved ones struck down by law enforcement.
