The Weekend Entertainment Recap: February 13th

DJ Khaled kicked off the weekend full of new updates and opportunities. The “God Did” rapper and producer announced that his “We The Best” Foundation will provide a four-year scholarship to a student seeking to attend the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports and Entertainment at Long Island University. In addition to the scholarship, DJ Khaled also revealed that he is leaving Sony Music’s Epic Records for a Global Creative Consultant position with Def Jam. The music mogul proceeded to celebrate the good news at the grand opening of a new Raising Cane’s location in Miami’s South Beach area.

While DJ Khaled celebrated at Raising Cane’s, rapper Moneybagg Yo announced that he’ll be opening a restaurant of his own. The Memphis rapper took to social media to tell fans that they can expect a new business venture from him and fellow rappers such as Rick Ross and Meek Mill left him comments of support.

The restaurant, Cache 42 Kitchen and Cocktails, is expected to open soon in his hometown. Moneybagg noted in his announcement post that he raps “for fun” but also uses it as a launchpad for other ventures.

One person who was not celebrating this weekend was Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas. The NBA star received a $40,000 fine on Friday after he used the phrase “no homo” during a postgame interview. The league cited Thomas’ use of  “derogatory and disparaging language” as the reason for the fine in a press release.

Thomas was also in the headlines earlier in the week for becoming the youngest player in NBA history to record three straight 40+ point games. Thomas has since issued an apology for the comment with a post on social media and emphasized that his intentions were not to be offensive.

Actress and comedian Roseanne Barr may not be in the NBA, but she did take a shot at getting with rapper ASAP Rocky. Barr took to Instagram to share with her followers that she slid into ASAP Rocky’s DMs. The 70-year-old actress told the 34-year-old rapper to “Call me when you get tired of Rihanna.”

Barr let it be known that she was shooting her shot with ASAP Rocky, although he (nor Rihanna) have publicly addressed the DM. The two have been romantically involved since 2020 and welcomed a son last year.

Rihanna may be a bit too busy to monitor ASAP Rocky’s DMs as she was preoccupied with crushing her Super Bowl halftime show performance. The singer made her first live event in seven years for Super Bowl 57, where the Philadelphia Eagles played the Kansas City Chiefs at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Rihanna performed hits including “B-tch Better Have My Money, “Work,” “Wild Thoughts” and “Umbrella.” The singer even revealed that she is expecting baby number two!
