Weekend Entertainment Recap: September 26th

Rapper DaBaby released new music and new allegations over the weekend. The “Rockstar” rapper claims to have had an intimate relationship with Megan Thee Stallion on his new single “Boogeyman.” The track is featured on his new album, Baby On Baby 2. DaBaby explicitly states that he slept with the H-Town Hottie before she accused Tory Lanez of shooting her. One of the lines from the song states, “hit it the day before too…But I kept it player, I ain’t say nothing ’bout it.” The two’s working relationship has not been the same since the release of hits such as “Cash Sh-t” and “Cry Baby.”

Many speculate issues started after DaBaby brought Tory Lanez on stage during his infamous 2021 Rolling Loud Miami performance

The Queen of “Barbz,” Nicki Minaj kicked off the weekend and the Rolling Loud Music festival with a bang. Nicki Minaj is the first female rapper to headline Rolling Loud, which was held at Citi Field in Queens, New York. The rapper performed newer hits such as “We Go Up,” and “Whole Lotta Money (Remix)” but made sure to incorporate the hits that made her famous like “Super Bass” and “Moment For Life.” In addition to headlining the festival, Nicki Minaj brought out special guests including fellow New York native, Fivio Foreign as well as Lil Uzi Vert and Bia

Lil Uzi Vert was also trending this weekend after it was discovered that one of his artists, Lotta Cash Desto, was shot and killed in Houston. The rising Memphis rapper was killed early Saturday morning while she was driving with at least one passenger inside, according to FOX 3.  Police officers found two women with gunshot wounds inside the vehicle.

One of the victims, who is assumed to be the rapper, was pronounced dead on the scene while the other victim was taken to a local hospital. More details surrounding the incident are developing.

While authorities are just beginning the investigation into the death of Lotta Cash Desto, this week brought a bit more clarity to the disappearance and death of former UCLA basketball player Jalen Hill. The 22-year-old went missing in Costa Rica back in July and his remains were discovered the following month. However, Costa Rican authorities confirmed on Friday that the remains found were in fact Jalen Hill. The basketball community continues to mourn his death as law enforcement conducts an ongoing investigation.

Losses continued rolling in as it was also announced that acting legend James Earl Jones has decided to retire from voicing the Star Wars character, Darth Vader. Jones and his distinctive voice have held on to the role for nearly 40 years. The 91-year-old signed over the rights to his voice to filmmakers and with the use of new artificial intelligence technology, the Darth Vader character will continue on.

Companies Lucasfilm and Respeecher plan to use old recordings to recreate the iconic voice for future projects.
