Weekend Entertainment Recap: October 24th

Pop icon Madonna and rap star Cardi B took the world by surprise this weekend when the ladies got into a social media squabble. It began with Madonna taking to Instagram to express how she’s paved the way for the Cardi B’s and Kim Kardashians of the world. In her post, Madonna describes how her book, S.E.X, pushed the boundaries of culture and opened the door for the women of today to be sexually liberated.

She ended her post with “You’re welcome b—-” with a clown emoji and that seemed to trigger the Bronx native. Cardi B responded with a slew of Tweets, one of which stated “these icons really become disappointments once you make it in the industry that’s why I keep to myself.”  However, by the end of the weekend, the two ladies were able to make amends as Cardi B Tweeted “I talked to Madonna …It was beautiful.”

The Queen of the Beyhive made waves this weekend when she announced that she’s going on tour! In true Beyonce fashion, she made the announcement in a unique way – during a raffle event held at the fifth annual Wearable Art Gala. Queen B raffled off a $20,000 package that included two tickets, first-class airfare, three nights in a hotel and a backstage tour guided by Tina Knowles.

The Renaissance tour is expected to begin next summer.

Rappers Drake and 21 Savage also made an announcement this weekend, they will be releasing a joint album. The duo will release “Her Loss,” on Friday, October 28. While Drake and 21 Savage announced their joint album, Kendrick Lamar’s 2012 album, Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City made history.

The project celebrated its 10th birthday and it spent every single year on the Billboard 200 album chart. According to Chart Data, “It’s the first hip-hop studio album in history to reach this milestone.” The 12-song album featured hits such as “Money Trees,” “Poetic Justice” and “Swimming Pools (Drank).”

In addition to the feuds and music announcements, thousands gathered this weekend to attend various homecoming celebrations. Several historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) hosted activities such as Yardfest, fashion shows, step shows and more to commemorate the occasion.
