There’s something so nefarious about sending out a tweet with thoughts and prayers, typing it out with fingers that are covered in blood, yet it never seems to get old for Republican lawmakers. In a bid to pretend that they care about children, Republicans have done their best to strip things that they think are harming children while blatantly ignoring the things that aren’t.

Let’s take Rafael “Ted,” Cruz, for example, who’s voted against same-sex marriage and other laws that protect the LGBTQ community, but fled to Mexico, even though he believes more should be done to secure the border when his own constituents were freezing to death. Not to mention, Ted voted against the bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which was a bill that required background checks for people purchasing firearms under the age of 21, expanded mental health services for families and children, as well as other provisions for safety; 192 Republicans voted against it.

Thankfully, it passed.

I imagine there was a big problem with them thinking that someone who can’t buy a beer should be able to buy a Beretta. Just this morning, it was reported that North Dakota senators made provisions for them to increase their meal reimbursements just after voting against free lunch. And seeing that there is no such thing as free lunch, you bet your ass they were not alone. In fact, terrible ole Mitch McConnell was against the expansion of the free lunch program just last year. I can’t think of logically how someone can say they have Christian values and are pro-guns for children but anti-food.

Republicans are, of course, against trans children transitioning, even though there is valid evidence that links hormone therapy for trans youth to a decreased suicide rate, and this is especially important because the rate of trans kids’ suicide is as high as 50%. I’m not sure you get to make a case about caring for children if you are allowing 50% of them to die without any steps toward prevention. I can’t imagine that a child is not allowed to assert their identity, but they are allowed to open carry. Not to mention their targeted vitriol against drag queens, who do nothing but wear death-defying heels, sing Whitney Houston songs and entertain the masses while child trafficking rings are being brought down. None of them seem to include people who know what the best wig glue is and how to contour to the gods.

Republicans’ anti-LGBTQ stance is supposedly there to protect the same children they let die at the hands of sadistic white lone wolves who have a history of actual mental illness.

Some of their rhetoric assigns mental illness to trans people. Meanwhile, Republicans did not want funding to go to the expansion of mental health services for their constituents. They force young girls, even those who have been sexually assaulted, to have children against their will and take money out of/close schools in poor and minority neighborhoods while allowing the remaining schools to be shot up. They use their bloody hands to continue to write laws that strip children of their identity while standing proudly over their bodies with thoughts and prayers as a penance to their parents.

Republican lawmakers do not care about children. They literally do not even care if they eat, so it’s time to stop pretending and just say they care about the money.  At the end of the day, who really will think of the children because it certainly isn’t lawmakers?
