Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina — the first state to secede from the Union in 1860 — surprised people all over the country when she revealed that she did not know that slavery was a cause of the American Civil War.
During the Town Hall, Haley shared that the cause was “basically how the government was going to run” and that “freedoms and what people could and couldn’t do.”
Haley is currently running for president.
