Osaka’s Game Was Molded in the Image of Venus and Serena Williams

Osaka’s dad introduced her to the game of tennis at the age of 3.

François said he watched Venus and Serena compete as teenagers in the late 90s and it inspired him to introduce his own daughters to tennis.

“The blueprint was already there,” Francois told the New York Times. “I just had to follow it.”

Osaka also acknowledges Williams as her primary inspiration. After defeating the 23-time Grand Slam winner last year, Osaka admitted she often asks herself, “what would Serena do” during pivotal moments in matches.
