SiriusXM Urban View host Karen Hunter is urging Americans to turn out in large numbers for the upcoming midterm elections, warning that staying home could give President Donald Trump and his MAGA allies more political power.
During a recent episode of her show, Hunter encouraged listeners to vote early and pay closer attention to local and state elections.
“Vote early. Wherever you are, vote early,” said Hunter. “Do not wait until Tuesday.”
Hunter argued that voters often overlook the elected officials whose decisions directly affect their communities.
“Your mayor, your city council, your people, they are the ones that have meetings that affect your day-to-day life with your water, your food, your roads, your snow removal, your schools,” she said.
Hunter also addressed concerns about voter suppression and potential election interference, asking whether those fears should deter people from participating.
“Is that going to stop you from showing up?” she asked.
Citing previous midterm elections, Hunter noted that voter turnout has historically been low, including approximately 46% in 2022 and 50% in 2018.
“The 2018 midterm elections, the Democratic Party flipped 41 seats to control the U.S. House of Representatives,” she said.
Hunter went on to argue that electing governors and members of Congress who oppose Trump’s policies could change the country’s political direction.
“It’s a numbers game. It’s math at this point,” she declared. “This is not about red and blue,” Hunter continued. “This is about, are you a person who’s in alignment with other people being human beings?”
Hunter concluded by challenging Americans who skipped the previous presidential election to reconsider their participation.
“This should be the highest turnout of a midterm ever because there’s so much at stake,” she added. “Why aren’t you, those of you who didn’t vote last time, motivated to do more today?”
