While Working at Standard Oil He Got His Ph.D in Chemistry
Gardner became a research chemist and project leader at the Standard Oil Company in Ohio, where he remained for almost 20 years. While there, he returned to school, earning both a master’s degree and Ph.D. in chemistry from Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1952 and 1959 respectively.
